Chimney Liners

Chimney Lining

What is a Chimney Liner? A Chimney Liner, just like it sounds, is the inside lining of a chimney. It is designed for the specific needs of the appliance, for which the chimney is venting. Installation of a new liner can be one of the best investments you make in your chimney.

There are different types of Chimney Liners. They can be made of stainless steel, aluminum, clay tile, poured, or even plastic. The purpose of a chimney liner is to vent hazardous gases from the appliance to the outside air. It protects the chimney/building from chimney fires and moisture caused from certain appliances.

If your chimney liner is cracked, damaged, or beyond repair, the flue should be relined. If there is not a liner in your chimney, you should have a liner installed. It is extremely important that the liner installed meets the requirements of the appliance venting through the chimney.

Waldoboro Chimney uses high quality stainless steel and aluminum liners. It is very important that flues are properly lined with an appropriate liner.

Some benefits of working with stainless steel are:
  • They can be more closely sized to the appliance it is venting. They increase efficiency of the appliance and can save you money.
  • They seem to have a higher tolerance for heat than traditional clay flue tiles. They tend to flex to handle greater temperature variances without cracking like traditional clay tiles.
  • They can often be installed in existing chimney with minimal demolition, reducing the overall project cost.
  • Stainless steel liners have a lifetime warranty on all components.

According to NFPA Code 211, all chimneys shall have a flue liner that can contain and exhaust all by-products of combustion including heat, dangerous gases, creosote, and condensation. When the flue liner can no longer perform this intended purpose, it shall be repaired or replaced.

In most instances, this is accomplished by using a metal pipe inserted from the top of the chimney down to the appliance. Our technicians are trained to know what type and grade of pipe is best for your chimney's needs.

Give us a call and we will evaluate your liner situation to be sure your chimney is properly lined.
